WOMEN OF UNITY GROUP
Women’s Group – 1st Saturday, 9:00 AM | Friendship Hall
The Women of Unity group was created as the result of several women expressing a desire to build a deeper sense of community among women of the congregation. In 2007 with the blessing of Rev Pat Williamson and the Board, Gloria Smith convened
the Women of Unity group. Although Gloria has stepped down as lead facilitator, the WOU group continues to flourish and is being directed by a group of co-leaders, including Mary Burns-Klinger, Julie Francel-Nelson, Dorothy Hatsukami, Cher Lindberg, and Christine Madson. All women who attend Unity Christ Church as well as other women who are seeking support on their spiritual journeys are welcomed as a part of the Women’s group.
We meet the first Saturday of each month at UCC from 9:00 to approximately 10:30 a.m. The meetings, at which attendance varies in size from 10-30+ women, are designed to be a safe place to share our journeys – both spiritual and secular – and has proven to be an added blessing to those who gather each month. The women attending come with open hearts and non-judgmental minds, ready to share their wisdom, to listen with their hearts, and to open themselves to growth and learning. The “magic” that happens as we join in with one another, spirit-bound, is palatable. Confidentiality with no judgment is our agreement.
At the WOU meetings, we begin our time together with prayer, followed by a brief check-in by each person attending. We do not offer advice or judgments with check-in but hold positive energy as we sacredly listen and witness. Check-in is followed by a brief introduction of the topic/presentation for the day, small groups, a summary, any business/announcements, and a closing prayer. A few examples of meeting topics we have discussed are: God’s unconditional love, tools for change, forgiveness, joy-filled living, and prosperity. In addition, we have also hosted special presentations by either a group member or guest speaker with knowledge of a specific topic such as Heart Math, Mandalas, or health/healing practices. We are always open to providing the group with new opportunities for growth.
We have also begun planning/hosting a yearly Women’s retreat at a nearby camp. In 2012 we invited women from several other Metro Unity churches to join us for this adventure, and hope to continue that practice. The retreat gives us all a chance to get to know each other more deeply, to refresh ourselves, to experience nature, and to generally delve deeper into our own spiritual journey by trying out some of the many planned activities and/or by simply spending time alone.
Come join the Women of Unity on the first Saturday of each month for love, support, and a multitude of unexpected blessings!
