Love in Action Month at Unity Christ Church Golden Valley MN

February is love in Action month at Unity Christ Church. During the coming month you will hear each Sunday from a number of ministries; what they do in the church and how you can best serve and support the ministries activities. You will get an opportunity to fully appreciate all that is happening in our community to support your spiritual evolution and growth through the intentional activity of service. You will then be given opportunities to sign-up to volunteer of your time and talent in support of our beloved community. (Click here for a listing and description of the volunteer ministries.) There will be volunteers available throughout the month to answer your questions and assist you in connecting with the ministry that best meets your needs and qualifications. This is a time to discern and learn live from the consciousness of the 5th Unity principle. Knowing the truth is not enough we must live the truth we know. We must put feet to our faith.

So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead… I by my works will show you my faith. James 2:17

This is a time to ask what is mine to do. What am I called to and who do I need to be in order for me to live in the world I want? What brings you joy and makes you come alive? Khalil Gibran wrote that “work is love made visible.” This month you are asked to search within, to listen to the call of the indwelling Christ, and then to express outwardly in to the world that which you are being called. There are no big jobs or small jobs there is only the effort and work we do with love and gratitude which counts.

We preach, teach, and live a life in and of service as a path to spiritual growth and evolution. As we look out onto the external world we ask what is mine to do and how can I serve in a manner which makes the world a better place to live and creates the world which works for everyone. We are not called to do everything nor be everything for all people and all situations. We are unique individualized expressions of God and we are called to do what is ours to do and to do it with love and passion. Collectively we are the hands, the feet, the limbs of God expressing into the world. As we serve with love and joy we unleash the full potential of the indwelling Christ yearning to express into the world.

for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”  Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?  And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing?  And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?”  And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:35-40)

Raising Healthy Youth
Facilitated by Dr. Michael Obsatz

For Parents, Spiritual Leaders, Concerned Adults, and Educators
Through video, lecture, and discussion, we will explore ways to empower and spiritually connect with youth.  Issues examined:  viewing oneself as a child of God, being one’s authentic self, navigating life’s complexities, developing empathy, compassion, and communication skills, coping with media addiction, chemical addictions, shame issues and bullying, living sacred sexuality, moving beyond gender role stereotypes, and applying Unity principles to life choices. Sandwich Bar available for lunch — $7 per person.

Dr. Michael Obsatz is a Professor Emeritus from Macalester College where he taught education and sociology classes for 40 years. He is an award-winning author of “Raising Nonviolent Children in a Violent World,” workshop leader, Unity Men’s Group co-facilitator, mentor, film producer, father and grandfather. Mike has presented “Shame” workshops all over the US for 30 years.

Meeting at Dunn Bros. Coffee on 50th & Xerxes in South Minneapolis. This new group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month. Current book is “The 12 Powers of Man” by Charles Fillmore (download a copy for free by clicking here). Study a new chapter each meeting. Average age is 30 years, but all are welcome!
